Shop Your Closet

by Christine 25. March 2009 08:55
Let's play the game, Shop Your Closet. The way to begin is to get inspired by a certain look or style, then go into your wardrobe and pick out similar pieces that you own already. Then supplement with just a couple of items, in this case for me, it was a pair of affordable shoes ($40!) and cute pants from J.Crew that are half off! The key isn't to copycat the look that you drew your inspiration from, but more to show and remind you that you can mix and match your clothing in cool, fresh and fun ways that you might have not though of before. For me, the outfit that I created was drawn from retro-feeling pieces, such as cropped pants, oxfords and ruffly cardigans. I snooped around my own closet and found that I had about 3/4 of the outfit already. Now all I have to do is purchase the bottom halves—shoes and pants! Now, go shop your own closet, and remember, HAVE FUN!!!

Pretty in Polka Dots

by Christine 19. March 2009 13:09

Lately, I have really been digging polka dots and so I decided to round up some cute, affordable options that I found around the web. I am especially into polka-dotted tights right now and am still in the process of seeking out the perfect pair, although I think these white and black ones are super cute. My friend A wore an adorable pair to work the other day that were black with little white dots and I haven't been able to stop thinking about them. Anyway, if you all come across some cute dotted items, send the links my way!

Yay or nay: Girly ruffles, and bows

by Christine 12. March 2009 09:13

So, recently I did a post about bows, which I personally love and then my friend Joanna posted a question on Smitten, asking how people felt about ruffles. There seems to be quite the opinion on girly accents, like ruffles and bows and even flowery prints. I selected a few items that I really loved, which all happen to be on sale, from Mod Cloth and Bluefly, and would personally wear each item. But I'm curious, what do you think of these types of styles? Would you wear them or is it just not for you? I would love to know!

High vs Low: Complete Outfit

by Christine 11. March 2009 04:26

Today, I saw that some cute Theory items were on sale at Bloomingdales and decided it would be fun to create an outfit out of some of the pieces. But, sadly for me, the sale prices are still not quite in my spending range, so I created another outfit that is similar in style but about half the price! There are of course some differences, but that is what is fun about fashion and creating looks. You can take similar looking items, play around with them and come up with different versions of the same look! I could see myself definitely wearing both of these ensembles to work on a sunny, spring day!

Channeling more Mad Men style: 1960's Secretary Sexy

by Christine 18. February 2009 09:24

I love the website Mod Cloth and and the show Mad Men on AMC. And, since I am currently coveting all MC's amazing dresses, I decided that I wanted to try and channel the chic style of the women on the show Mad Men.  I love how they manage to look so demure yet still sexy. Here is what I came up with and how I would put it together. First, I'd tuck the cardigan into the skirt, making sure to leave a couple buttons undone at the top for a little bit of sexiness. Then, I'd pair it with the black and white headband and shoes, cream gloves and some fun gold accessories. And, when paired against the bold striping on the skirt, the contrast of the patterned jacket and bold tights keeps the outfit fresh and fun. To purchase these items or any of Mod Cloth's cute clothes, click here. Happy Shopping!

Yay or nay: Headbands

by Christine 5. February 2009 01:12

Tell me dear readers, what do you think of headbands? I recently purchased the one from Forever 21 and have been playing around with how to wear it. Do you think it looks best when placed straight across the forehead or should it be pushed back to the hairline? Or, do you think that these types of hair/head bands should never see the light of day? Do tell! I would love to know your thoughts!
